I am a firm believer that Abu Garcia Baitcasters (except the BCX Series) are the best reels on the market. I fish quite a bit and after some time reels take a beating.
Last night a buddy was reeling in a fish and the reel started making bad noises and sticking. On the next fish when I was reeling in I realized we blew out a gear inside. My friend was apologizing for breaking my reel and I had to remind him that it is no worries as it was from catching fish and it just could not take any more. A badge of honor. A fish tearing a gear out of an Abu. LOVE IT!

I mostly do. I have a couple very nice 1 piece but 2 works or me.

Any suggestions for a reliable good backbone channel rod? I'm getting my new rig and will wait for "someguy" advice

If money isn't an object I would get a Blackhorse custom but at $140 to start I'm guessing you are looking for a stock rod. For nearly all my day to day circle hooking I use the eagle claw water eagle 8' 2 piece. They are $16 + shipping. After the rod shipping you may as well get some buddies together.
