Anyone been fishing here lately? It was running pretty good the last couple weeks, but lately its been pretty slow. Don't know if it's spawn, the depth were fishing, or the weather patterns running through the last week. If anyone has any hot spots or tips let me know. I wanna find some big kitties!

Fish have moved shallow for numbers and the big ones are spread out. I have had good luck in either 6 feet or less or deep cuts 22-25 feet with current pushing in. The recent fronts have also slowed some of the big fish.

Ya I was down in Fargo tonight with Deuce and we caught a couple and had a HOG on but it broke the rookies line, i'll have to try shallow next time. I think spawn is coming cuz we are catching a lot of males

I think spawn is coming cuz we are catching a lot of males Invest in good 30 pound mono for your main lines, 20 pound mono snells, and set your drags properly. This will ensure less breakoffs of fish but allow for breakoffs when you want them. Another good idea is a rod that has quite a bit of flex in it so the rod takes the shock of a run and not the line.

You prefer mono over braid?...if so why?

Both mono and braid have their benefits but I much prefer mono.
1. Cheap 2. Can withstand rock abrasions way better 3. I can break it from snags much easier than braid. 4. It has some stretch to allow for less pull outs on hook sets and can absorb more shock of hard fighting fish.

I have one setup with only mono and my other is set up with braided and a mono leader

I like the way braided casts and where we fish there is quite a few dead trees in the water so the mono tends to break a lot. I'm not really a big fan of having to tie line every 5 minutes for everyone cuz they aren't smart enough to learn

The benefits of mono work for me and how I fish. Another thing to keep in mind. If you aren't losing some gear while cattin you aren't fishing hard enough.
